The sessions take place in a private area in the adjacent Olney Pancake Parlour. The children receive a hot chocolate and cake whilst reviewing their books and before heading into The Snug to each select a title they like, for next month’s club and from their age section. The children then propose their title and say why it should be picked by the group for next month’s club read. This is often a noisy part of the afternoon and is good fun! This process builds their individual confidence and presentation skills, as they are seeking to influence each other. These group-skills are key in life and socially lead to little bonds. Children love it when their chosen title gets picked for the monthly read.

We now have a variety of clubs on offer. They are kept tight to two year age band, to ensure the children receive the books and appropriate support they need, 6-8 yr olds, 7-9 yr olds, 9-12 yr olds and Teens meet once a month.

Young Child Book clubs, £16 Includes the book, the session, the cake and hot chocolate/juice. (Books £7.99/£8.99) Monthly.

Teen Book club, £18

Includes the book, session, the cake and hot chocolate/juice. (Older fiction books are £9.99).Monthly.

Young Writers Club, £14.99

Includes the cake and drink and the 90 min session. Each child will also be provided with a journal, £10.99 and their own mini-thesaurus, £4.99, to extend their range and depth of vocabulary. The thesaurus will be used in weekly sessions and 100% will improve oral and written expression. Parents often positively comment on the changes observed in their children’s oral and written expression.

NB: Please ensure the Thesaurus and Journal are brought to each session.

Concessionary Rate, £10

If you are in difficult circumstances, please talk with Rose in person. A concessionary rate is available in certain circumstances. Rose is keen to support full inclusion of all children who want to write.

Every Friday, children aged 9-14 join me to develop their confidence as writers in a dynamic and fun way. All members seeking to advance the power and fluency of their expression are encouraged to read widely and write regularly. The key is to actively observe the world around them and include those life moments, relationships, incidents in their stories.

I create and hold a safe space for our club members. I set and hold the premise of trust and kindness so they can be confident to share what is a vulnerable moment as they read their stories aloud. Every child has an authentic voice my task is to release their inhibitions so their expressions can truly flow. As a result the peer-feedback session at the end is the highlight. I encourage them to actively listen to each others stories and constructively comment. They do this with keen attention, often much fun and giggles too. The more emotive stories have been very moving and both the peer group and parents are stunned by the power of some of the writing that takes place in session.

This is definitely my favourite part of the week!
